19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.
Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
It is his maiden title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.
The win also indicates the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one different events.
"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six finals, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
The player's retrieving approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused some to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.
However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.
Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the final five points to go ahead.
The competitors swapped breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional championship, took control to force a final set.
The opponent defended 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a rally at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
